Workshop Description

This training is designed to educate, inform, and introduce strategies that can be used to effectively overcome and prevent cycles of trauma. The presenter will highlight different types of trauma including community violence and how poverty plays a defining role in contributing to the cycle of trauma.

This training will use integrated concepts and principals such as:

- Systems theory

- Adopting a trauma informed approach at the organizational level

- Chakra psychology

- Prevention oriented approaches as a means to understand, treat and prevent trauma.

Upon completion of the training, the learner will be able to: employ strategies that will assist in reconnecting to one’s emotions, feelings and body; recognize signs of trauma; and understand the 6 guiding principals to a trauma informed approach.  

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define the five types of trauma and recognize neurobiological symptoms of trauma.
  • Identify and shift thought distortions and narratives that lead to trauma reinactment.
  • Employ strategies to disrupt trauma cycles.
  • Apply clinical practices that can build resilience to stress response as a means to improve clinical outcomes.

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.

Novena J. Riojas, LCSW, PCP, holds a master’s degree of Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at The City University of New York. She also obtained The Harold Weiss man Post Graduate Certificate in Social Work Administration. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Hunter College City University of New York. Novena is a certified personal and Leadership coach, licensed psychotherapist and a leader with a track record of performance, superior interpersonal skills and progressive growth. Novena currently provides Executive oversight of operations for NYC's foster care system. This includes but is not limited to program evaluation, strategic planning and implementation of process improvements. Throughout Novenas career she has developed, Implemented and facilitated staff development and training for child Welfare staff members involved in the delivery of critical social service initiatives, served as a quality assurance Manager, and liaised between contracted providers and Family Court systems. Novena’s is focused on empowering individuals and families to clarify and take action towards rewriting their personal narratives.Her philosophy is rooted in the belief that when we are intentional about our personal and professional growth it moves us closer to our true purpose and mission in life.
