Workshop Description

This training will use didactic, experiential work, and demonstration to learn about brainspotting and how it applies to clinical practice. Brainspotting is a therapeutic modality developed by David Grand, PhD. It is a brain/body based model working with the neurobiology of the therapist and client within the therapeutic relationship. The focus will be on understanding the concept of limbic countertransference (the therapist’s fight, flight, freeze, fawn, or other unconscious reactions to client shared information.) and how it impacts the therapeutic relationship. Discussion and examples will be presented to show how the therapist can identify, clarify, stay present and learn from their reactions during the session. As a group we will explore what beliefs and physical restrictions are in the way of us being present for our clients. We will watch a demonstration of using brainspotting to clear limbic countertransference and will end with a Self-spotting exercise.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define Brainspotting, its core concepts and how it applies to clinical practice
  • Define limbic countertransference and identify the ethical challenges associated with it
  • Learn how to clear, enhance and expand beyond Limbic Countertransference
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Brainspotting and how it works with Limbic Countertransference from a consultation/consultee perspective
