Workshop Description

Have you ever provided services to military members or families and had a sense of different career and life priorities & challenges compared with non-military clients? Are you interested in a first-hand workshop about life in the military? Attendees will gain a greater understanding of military culture, military families including children and parents of military members, and deployment cycles. This training will also cover the differences and similarities between Active Duty and Guard/Reserve including deployments, rank structure and housing. Finally, participants will learn about resources and access to services for military members, partners and children.] 

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • describe deployment cycles among Guard, Reserve and Active Duty members
  • describe common stressors among military families of Guard, Reserve & active duty members
  • list resources for military families and children nationwide (based on eligibility and availability)
  • describe common aspects of military culture among Guard, Reserve and Active Duty members and families

This workshop is approved for 3.0 continuing education credit hours.

Barbara Cox has been an Army brat since birth, and a military spouse since June 2001. Barbara has served as a licensed social worker for over 20 years, including at Ramstein Air Base, when she moved to Landstuhl, Germany for her husband’s civilian job in 2015. Barbara has been a volunteer for the U.S. Army Reserves as a Family Readiness Group chair and served as a full-time social worker at the Massachusetts National Guard as a Military Family Life Consultant. Barbara moved to Stuttgart in December 2017 for her husband’s job; he deployed as a reservist in the U.S. Army four months later. Barbara and Jeff are now in northern New York state, near Ft. Drum and the Canadian border. Barbara enjoys travel, photography, scrapbooking, reading and singing.
